Emotional Reactivity and Police Expertise in Use-of-Force Decision-Making

We are pleased to share this new paper from the Polis team reporting our latest research on the relationship between officers' emotional state and use of force decision-making. Using natural language processing, our team headed by Dr. Vivian Ta identified a significant relationship between effective situational assessment and reaction and a calm, confident, positive emotional state. The Polis team will continue building on these findings in our ADAPT project and several other major efforts aimed at developing best practices to improve police decision-making.
